Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) – SA
Public facing website content
The DCSI Screening Unit website is the main source of online information for South Australians who need a screening check. Mary-Ann’s role was to design a customer-centric, user-friendly and intuitive information architecture for the site and rewrite the content. This involved editing and simplifying content by removing jargon, ambiguity and legalese and ensuring that the content was written in plain English to a consistent style.
AdelaideX – University of Adelaide
Communication advice and support was provided to AdelaideX, the University of Adelaide’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) division. This included the development of the AdelaideX microsite, writing of course promotional pages, stakeholder newsletters, blog posts and video scripts and editing of course content.
Mary-Ann developed and implemented an electronic direct mail strategy using the University’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system resulting in a significant increase in enrolment numbers in AdelaideX courses. Use of the CRM system allowed AdelaideX to analyse learner behaviour and preferences and based on this data, target global learners with further learning opportunities at the University of Adelaide.
Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd)
Mary-Ann provided communication advice to IPEd during a time of significant change for the organisation which saw editors (members of six national societies of editors) vote to transfer their membership to IPEd.
For this project, communication and engagement with 1,300 editors nationally was critical to ensure that the editors fully understood the implications of voting to transfer their membership from the societies of editors to IPEd.
Department for Education and Child Development (DECD) – SA
Intranet replacement project
The DECD intranet is a key source of information and documents for over 20,000 DECD teachers and other staff working in schools and sites across South Australia.
Mary-Ann contributed to a significant 18-month project to update the intranet, including a rewrite and edit of 45,000 intranet pages and assets to a succinct 10,000 pages and assets. The content was developed to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and the pages were created using the Squiz Matrix Content Management System.
SA Power Networks
Communication support was provided to SA Power Networks’ Stakeholder Engagement team which included content development for the in-depth engagement pages of the Talking Power website and preparation of a regular newsletter to stakeholders to encourage their ongoing involvement in the engagement process.
The Senior newspaper
Mary-Ann has a keen interest in ageing and older people and is the South Australian freelance writer for the The Senior newspaper published by Fairfax media.
